The Latest on the resignation of Sen. Joe Manchin
The Latest On Manchin’s resignation from Senate article The Senate Ethics Committee announced Friday that it had confirmed former West Virginia Sen. John Manchin as a witness in the ongoing Russia investigation.
Manchin’s office said in a statement that the former Democrat “had no involvement in the investigation of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.”
Manchin is one of the Senate’s few holdouts in the confirmation process.
Manchins statement said he “supports full cooperation with the Committee, including any and all steps necessary to resolve the inquiry.”
It’s not clear if the committee has requested Manchin testify before the panel or whether he is willing to do so.
Manchin has said he would not be willing to testify, and Manchin did not respond to a request for comment.
He’s one of a number of Democrats in the Senate who are also expected to leave the panel this year after their term ends in 2022.
The panel is expected to vote on its next chair in the coming days.
